DAY 4: ON THE ROAD (DOLLWOOD to GRACELAND)

We decided to eat salad when we stopped for lunch in Nashville. If by salad you mean fried chicken, meatloaf, macaroni and cheese (considered a vegetable in the South!), sweet potatoes, and other things that I can't quite remember. It's all beginning to blend into one sweet, fatty, savory mash now. This meal was from Swett's. Disgustingly named, perhaps, but delicious. We asked a man in the Farmer's Market where to find it, and he recommended we go to KFC instead. So much for authenticity. We persevered, though, and found it soon enough. We ate in a nearby park.

The coolest thing on the drive from Nashville to Memphis--and scariest thing, without a doubt--was the Loretta Lynn home/dude ranch/trailer park/museum/giftshop. There were a lot of horses, and landscaping.

does the "fan" in doll & fan museum refer to (a) loretta's supporters, (b) the history of that modern marvel, the electric fan, or (c) a dainty collection of handheld fans? unfortunately, as everything was closed (making it even scarier), we may never know.

On to Graceland!
