DAY 1: LEAVING NEW YORK

where's artie?

so we got up early, loaded up the car & headed south. Kamran's shorts were dirty from strapping Artie's crate to the roof of the car. Stay tuned, though, becuase he would wash them in Pigeon Forge. arthur was confused, even though we've told him countless times about our trip & move. naturally, kamran took the wheel:

New Jersey, Delaware, and then a stop for al fresco lunch in Silver Spring, MD with Max. Silver Spring, apparently, is still segregated, as dogs have to sit on the other side of the fence from their dining companions. Artie hated this. He even howled. For real.

we arrived in front royal, va late afternoon & checked in to our slightly janky motel room. after taking advantage of the cable telly & lounging about, we ventured out in search of nourishment. to artie's dismay, dogs were not welcome on the porch of our restaurant of choice! so we got some takeout & decided to take a scenic civil war drive & let our food get cold. the drive was quite unremarkable, with the exception of Rocky Road. (actual street name) here are some blurry shots, taken while getting thrashed about.

we were too scared to slow down. there were hill billies everywhere.

it felt a little bit like the blair witch project. or deliverance.

and then we sped around a cemetary whose gates were to have been locked one minute prior.

We had pulled pork and grilled cheese in one of our two beds, while watching Project Runway.
